Marriner and I went to dinner on Friday night. We had coupons for a free dinner at Nando's Peri Peri in National Harbor. Even though we usually eschew National Harbor because their developer seems to have made great efforts to exclude the local riff-raff, we overcame our moral objections for the sake of free food. It was our first time there, as evidenced by the fact that we didn't notice we were supposed to wait to be seated...we just walked up and ordered. Then they asked us where we wanted to sit. We looked around and picked a private little spot in the corner. It was great, except the music was a little loud. We're not really loud music lovers. It's too much work to shout over it. And it turned out to be that way - after about 15 minutes, we both resorted to signing.
So there's another good reason to learn ASL. In an increasingly loud world, don't shout louder - just change languages.
